Hardy Lake is the only Indiana Department of Natural Resources property with a raptor rehabilitation center. This center cares for injured birds of prey (raptors) and educates visitors about Indiana’s hawks, owls, falcons and vultures. The Raptor Center is honored to be named for the late Dwight R. Chamberlain. One of the most recognized conservationist and a local resident, he was considered one of the nation's leading authorities on crows and ravens. The Jonas Family has been raising goats on their family farm since 2005. The Goat Milk Stuff farm consists of 36 acres in Scottsburg. All of their goats are raised on goat milk and they use the extra milk to make goat milk soaps, lip balms, lotions, and more to run the family business. The Farm Store is open and there is lots of fun to experience. Join them for a Farm Tour, snuggle up with a Baby Goat Experience, and shop all of their goat milk goodies! You can also see (and feed) some of the goats from the front parking lot. The Jonas Family passion was to bring joy to people's lives by sharing their goats.

Hardy Lake Shale Bluff Campgrounds

Hardy Lake has a 740 acre lake with great fishing and it allows water skiing. It has hiking trails, beach, picnic area, and 2 campgrounds. Hunting is allowed during normal hunting seasons which include deer and wild turkey hunting. Both campgrounds are open year round with electric available at each site in Shale Bluff Campground.

Hardy Lake State Recreation Area

Hardy Lake is the only state reservoir not created for flood control. This means that the lake level stays stable year-round, positively affecting the appearance of the shoreline, fishing and wildlife living there. The property is a multi-use facility offering hiking, swimming, boating, skiing, camping and more. Hardy Lake is surrounded on all sides by limestone and rocky bluffs, caves and great fossils, but the property has only slate and shale exposure. Hardy Lake is the only DNR property with a raptor rehabilitation center. This center cares for injured birds of prey (raptors) and educates visitors about Indiana’s hawks, owls, falcons and vultures.

Hardy Lake State Recreation Area - Swimming Beach
